Gil Scott-Heron

Executive Producer of the feature length documentary “Who is Gil Scott-Heron?” commissioned by Richard Russell of XL Recordings in celebration of the life of the iconic artist and activist. I was brought onto the project because I worked with Gil on what would be his last studio album, “I’m New Here”.

Our film was directed by acclaimed creative duo Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard (20,00 Days on Earth, Broken English) and features deeply personal interviews with Gil’s closest friends and collaborators. As the EP it was my remit to land those interviews and ensure that we told Gil’s story with a level of grace and dignity befitting the cultural impact of his work, while never pulling punches with the truth.

The truth is Gil’s work shaped my world in ways both large and small. His intellect was fierce and his choices uncompromising. This documentary is a small gesture of gratitude - a portrait drawn in absentia through the prism of the people who loved him the most.
